Injunction bars Micron sale of some DRAM, NAND and SSDs in China

Thursday, July 5, 2018

Taiwanese foundry UMC said that a Chinese court issued a preliminary injunction barring Micron from selling some DRAM and NAND chips as well as solid state drives (SSDs) in China stemming from a patent infringement suit filed by UMC in January.

Micron (Boise, Idaho) said it has not yet received any injunction and would not comment further until reviewing the documents.

UMC (Hsinchu, Taiwan) said the injunction, issued by Fuzhou Intermediate People's Court, enjoins Micron from selling in China 26 DRAM and NAND-related items, including certain SSDs and memory sticks.

UMC filed in January suit in January accusing Micron chips of infringing upon patents in three areas, including specific memory applications related to DDR4, SSD and memory used in graphics cards.

"UMC invests heavily in its intellectual property and aggressively pursues any company that infringes UMC's patents," said Jason Wang, co-president of UMC, in a statement.
