SK Hynix has reported net profits of KRW4.33 trillion (US$3.87 billion) on consolidated revenues of KRW10.37 trillion for the second quarter of 2018. Both results hit record-high levels.
SK Hynix generated operating profits of KRW5.57 trillion in the second quarter, also an all-time high. Growing shipments of the company's DRAM and NAND flash memory chips led to sequential increases of 19% and 28%, respectively, in revenues and operating profits during the quarter.
SK Hynix disclosed its DRAM bit shipments increased 16% sequentially in the second quarter, thanks to robust demand for servers and PCs, while ASPs rose by 4%.
Meanwhile, SK Hynix' NAND flash bit shipments climbed 19% on quarter driven mainly by rising demand for SSDs and an increase in the average density of China-branded smartphones, while ASPs fell 9% due to growth on the supply side, the company indicated.
SK Hynix will be growing its 1Xnm DRAM chip output for server and mobile applications, while expanding its 72-layer 3D NAND chip output for high-density mobile solutions and enterprise SSDs, the company said.
In addition, SK Hynix is scheduled to complete the construction of cleanroom facilities at its new fab in Cheongju, South Korea by the end of September, the company noted. The new fab is expected to come online in early 2019. Meanwhile, the company expects to carry out the cleanroom space expansion at its fab in Wuxi, China by the end of 2018 as planned.
