Pure-play foundry United Microelectronics (UMC) has reported July consolidated revenues increased 7.4% sequentially to NT$14.35 billion (US$468 million), while revenues at specialty IC foundry specialist Vanguard International Semiconductor (VIS) slipped 0.1% to NT$2.49 billion.
UMC's consolidated revenues for July 2018 represented a 12.2% on-year increase. Consolidated sales for the first seven months of 2018 totaled NT$90.7 billion, rising 3.4% from a year earlier.
UMC estimated previously wafer shipments would register flat sequential growth in the third quarter with a marginal increase in ASPs. Judging from the estimate, market observers expect UMC to likely post on-month revenue decreases through September.
VIS saw its July consolidated revenues surge 28.7% from the same period in 2017. The specialty IC foundry's cumulative 2018 revenues through July increased 13.5% from a year ago to NT$15.97 billion.
VIS expects to enjoy another quarter of record-high revenues in the third quarter of 2018, thanks to continued strong demand for 8-inch foundry services. The company generated revenues of NT$7.05 billion in the second quarter, up 9.7% sequentially and hitting a record high. Revenues for the third quarter are forecast to be between NT$7.6 billion and NT$8 billion.
