Senior engineers and executives at Taiwan-based IC design houses are being targeted by China-based firms looking to enhance their homegrown technology capability, according to industry sources.
HR recruitment agencies hired by China-based firms have recently approached "more frequently" high-level executives and engineers from Taiwan's IC design industry, the sources indicated. China-based companies are willing to offer much higher salaries - 3-5 times the annual income offered by their Taiwan-based counterparts - to bring in more talent, the sources said.
China's IC design industry has been growing fast in recent years, which has encouraged the world's top chipmakers like TSMC to set up advanced fabs locally, the sources noted.
On the other hand, many Taiwan-based IC design houses are encountering growth bottlenecks, the sources continued. Taiwan-based fabless chipmakers will be facing increasing competition from their fellow China-based players which have strong government policy support, the sources said.
