SK Hynix has reported net profits of KRW4.69 trillion (US$4.12 billion) on consolidated revenues of KRW11.42 trillion for the third quarter of 2018. Both hit record-high levels.

SK Hynix generated operating profits of KRW6.47 trillion in the third quarter, also an all-time high. The quarter marked the second consecutive quarter of record revenues and profits for the memory chip vendor.

Growing shipments of SK Hynix' DRAM and NAND flash memory chips led to sequential increases of 10% and 16% in revenues and operating profits, respectively during the third quarter. The company disclosed its DRAM and NAND flash bit shipments grew 5% and 19%, respectively, on quarter.

SK Hynix credited its DRAM bit shipment growth to a seasonal pick-up in demand for mobile devices and continued strong demand for servers. As for NAND flash, shipments surged thanks to the company's increased focus on high-density mobile devices and SSDs.

Nevertheless, SK Hynix saw its DRAM ASPs rise by a mere 1% sequentially in the third quarter, while NAND flash ASPs fell 10% on quarter.

In addition, SK Hynix expects to complete the development of 1Ynm process technology for the manufacture of DRAM memory by the end of 2018. The company is also scheduled to complete the cleanroom expansion of its fab in Wuxi, China by the end of the year. The additional new capacity is expected to arrive in the first half of 2019.

As for other plans, SK Hynix is eyeing a bigger share in the mobile and enterprise SSD market with 3D NAND products. The company also plans to complete the development of its 96-layer 3D NAND process technology later this year.

SK Hynix' new fab dubbed M15 for the manufacture of 3D NAND flash chips in Cheongju, South Korea will come online in the first half of 2019, the company added.
