China-based crystal-growing furnace makers who have long been focusing on the PV industry, have developed tools looking to build their presence in the semiconductor sector, according to industry sources.
China's fast-growing IC manufacturing sector is expected to make a positive contribution to the development of China's homegrown crystal-growing furnace industry, the sources said. With government support, China's local silicon wafer suppliers and foundry chipmakers have been pouring significant capital into their capacity expansions, the sources indicated.
In addition, orders from China's local wafer plants operated by foreign enterprises will be regarded by China-based crystal-growing furnace manufacturers as an important milestone in their global presence expansion, the sources noted.
Taiwan-based Wafer Works, for example, has its newly-established 8-inch wafer plant in Zhengzhou equipped with crystal growing furnaces supplied by Jingsheng Mechanical & Electrical, the sources disclosed.
The China government has been supporting aggressively its local industries to substantially improve the self-sufficiency rate for ICs in the nation.
