Foxconn Technology Group has established complete 8K+5G ecosystems, marking another big step forward in the group's development roadmaps beyond cloud computing, mobile devices, IoT, big data, smart living and robots, according to Lu Fang-ming, chairman of Foxconn's telecom arm Asia Pacific Telecom (APT).
At the group's tech innovations exhibition held June 24 at its headquarters in New Taipei City, Lu said that following two years of efforts, Foxconn has completed the 8K+5G ecosystems, covering SoCs for 8K cameras, compression and decompression technologies for 8K image transmission, wired and 5G wireless transmission environments, as well as terminal displays and applications.
Foxconn has not only worked out compression and decompression technology solutions for 8K image transmission but has also harnessed relevant patented technologies, Lu revealed, stressing that in establishing 5G environments for 8K image transmission, APT has rolled out total solutions for backend-to-frontend operations. In addition, 8K TVs for general consumers and 8K displays for professional users have also hit the market, he added.
Lu said 8K+5G is now mainly applied to lighthouse factories featuring Industry 4.0 smart manufacturing operations to help reduce operating cost and boost production efficiency. Applications to other sectors such as education, medical care, safety and security surveillance have also achieved notable results, he indicated.
So far, some three million classrooms around the world have incorporated interactive teaching systems based on electronic whiteboards, and many museums have adopted 8K solutions. These will all become mainstream application outlets, according to Lu.
Lu also disclosed that Foxconn Industrial Internet (FII) will unveil a spate of micro cloud platforms dedicated to serving more than 10 applications such as SMT (surface-mount technology), CNC (computerized numerical control), cutting tools, molds, safety and security, logistics, and more.
