Data storage solution provider NetApp is to double its R&D team in Taiwan to over 100 people by the end of 2019 as it is scaling up its operations to meet the growing demand for cloud storage solutions in the local market, according to Sean Lin, general manager of NetApp Taiwan.

The expanded R&D workforce will also enable NetApp to roll out more collaborative efforts with local IT companies, Lin said.

Foxconn Electronics, Quanta Computer and Inventec are NetApp's major ODM production partners in Taiwan.

Some ODM partners such as Quanta Cloud Technology (QCT) are transforming themselves into solution providers, facilitating the integration of storage solutions developed by local companies and others by NetApp, Lin indicated.

Through these continued efforts, NetApp has managed to maintain a 20% share in the external enterprises storage systems market in Taiwan for 14 consecutive quarters, Lin noted.

Lin attributed NetApp's robust sales in Taiwan to its offerings of hybrid multi-could storage solutions and experience through the cooperation with Amazon's AWS, Microsoft's Azure and also Google Cloud, Lin added.
