MediaTek is set to unveil a new office building in northern Taiwan in mid September, which will be dedicated to the development of 5G chip technologies while also serving as the chipmaker's new headquarters.
The new facility's Chinese name, translated as "5G R&D Building," demonstrates the firm's determination and ambition in the 5G era.
MediaTek has led peers in rolling out the world's first 5G sub-6GHz SoC, and is set to launch a second 5G SoC in the first half of 2020.
MediaTek has joined forces with upstream and downstream partners to build Taiwan's prowess in the global 5G supply chain, constantly expanding the number of engineers in Taiwan and strengthening R&D resources.
Since its inception in 1997, MediaTek has constructed quite a few R&D buildings and relocated operating headquarters several times along with its ever-expanding R&D lineup and product lines from computer peripheral chips, VCD and DVD chips to mobile device chips.
