AMD 3rd quarter revenue hits $1.8 billion

Thursday, October 31, 2019

AMD has announced revenues for the third quarter of 2019 reached US$1.8 billion, with operating income of US$186 million, net income of US$120 million and diluted earnings per share of US$0.11.

On a non-GAAP basis, operating income was US$240 million, net income was US$219 million and diluted earnings per share was US$0.18, AMD said.

AMD's third-quarter revenues were up 9% on year and 18% on quarter due to higher revenues in the Computing and Graphics segment, partially offset by lower revenues in the Enterprise, Embedded and Semi-Custom segment.

The company's gross margin for the quarter was 43%, up 3pp on year and 2pp on quarter, primarily driven by increased Ryzen and EPYC processor sales.

The operating income was US$186 million compared to US$150 million a year ago and US$59 million in the prior quarter. Net income was US$120 million compared to US$102 million a year ago and US$35 million in the prior quarter. Diluted earnings per share were US$0.11 compared to US$0.09 a year ago and US$0.03 in the prior quarter.

Computing and Graphics segment revenues were US$1.28 billion, up 36% on year and sequentially. Higher revenues were primarily driven by increased Ryzen client processor sales.

Client processor average selling price (ASP) increased on year primarily driven by Ryzen desktop processor sales and increased on quarter driven by both Ryzen desktop and mobile processor sales.

GPU ASP increased on year driven by higher channel sales and decreased on quarter due to a higher proportion of mobile sales.

Computing and Graphics segment's operating income was US$179 million compared to US$100 million a year ago and US$22 million in the prior quarter. The on-year and on-quarter increases were primarily due to higher revenues.

Enterprise, Embedded and Semi-Custom segment revenues were US$525 million, down 27% on year and 11% sequentially. The on-year and on-quarter decreases were primarily due to lower semi-custom product revenues, partially offset by higher EPYC processor sales.

The segment's operating income was US$61 million, compared to US$86 million a year ago and US$89 million in the prior quarter. The on-year and on-quarter decreases were due to lower revenues and higher operating expenses.
