Foxconn Technology Group will step up transforming into a provider of technology services by deepening deployments in electric vehicle, smart heath care and robot industries while also strengthening development of core technologies including AI, semiconductor and 5G/6G mobile communications, according to its chairman Young Liu.

Liu, speaking at an investors conference Wednesday, said that Foxconn will not enter EV production but will set up a platform to provide diverse modules including chassis, letting clients build the complete EVs.

In the next 3-5 years, Liu said, Foxconn's semiconductor development will focus more on 3D packaging, PLP (panel level packaging) and SiP processes. The company will not venture into the handset AP segment but will deepen integration of 8K TV SoCs and tap into the market for chiplets with unit price of under US$2, including those for power management, LCD panel driver and mini controller.

As to 5G technologies, Liu revealed, his company will move to explore business opportunities for diverse value-added services including 5G-based smart living and other commercial personal applications, in addition to opportunities arising from 5G networking infrastructure and devices.

Liu said he is optimistic about future development for wearable devices, and Foxconn will venture into the development and production of AR glasses in 2020, with such devices already in the firm's latest product roadmaps.
