List of companies going with Qualcomm 5G RAN platform

Monday, March 2, 2020

Qualcomm Technologies has announced its 5G RAN platform (FSM100xx) has been adopted by many manufacturers and cellular infrastructure providers around the world, including Taiwan-based Sercomm.

Qualcomm said the wireless infrastructure ecosystem recognizes that the company provides a mmWave radio access platform designed to be scalable and cost-effective. Furthermore, its form factor and power level is designed to address indoor and outdoor densification requirements for 5G networks and fast-paced network upgrades to 5G.

"With the continued growth and adoption of our Qualcomm 5G RAN platform, Qualcomm Technologies aims to deliver cutting-edge 5G mmWave infrastructure technology to power 5G small cell and remote radio head infrastructure across the globe," said Durga Malladi, senior vice president and general manager, 4G/5G, Qualcomm Technologies. "Combined with the power and flexibility to support virtual RAN and open radio access interfaces, our Qualcomm 5G RAN platform is designed to allow infrastructure providers the ability to solve pressing connectivity issues and give its users increased access to the reliable, robust and powerful mobile experiences enabled by 5G."

The companies that have adopted the platform include: Airspan, Altiostar, Baicells, Corning, Radisys, Rakuten, Samsung, Sercomm, Small Cell Forum, T&W, and Verizon.

"As a leading supplier of telecom equipment, we are committed to provide the highest performance and yet cost-effective solution to our customers. The Qualcomm 5G RAN platform is designed to provide the technology innovation to support next generation networks for our MNO customers. We are glad to work with Qualcomm Technologies and expect to provide densely deployed 5G small cells in time to meet the demand of MNOs," said Ben Lin, chief technology officer, Sercomm.

Qualcomm said its 5G RAN platform establishes a new foundation designed to deliver high data speeds, capacity and low latency for usage across numerous emerging industries and applications, such as private 5G networks, indoor mmWave, industrial automation, and fixed wireless access. The RAN platform is designed to deliver connectivity where it is needed most, including crowded environments like stadiums and train stations. Engineered to facilitate a small form factor and power efficient designs (with Power over Ethernet support), the Qualcomm 5G RAN platform is expected to provide critical 5G innovation for customers to meet challenging indoor enterprise requirements.

As the development and deployment of cellular networking equipment that utilize Qualcomm 5G RAN platform continues, users are expected to see benefits such as multi-gigabit mobile connections, improved responsiveness from low latency communications, and enhanced experiences across a wide array of connected devices, from 5G-enabled enterprise laptops to virtual and augmented reality headsets and industrial equipment, Qualcomm said.
