April chip sales up y-o-y

Thursday, June 4, 2020

April semiconductor sales were down 1.2% on March at $34.4 billion but 6.2% up on the $32.4 billion of April 2019, says the SIA.

Regionally, semiconductor sales increased 2.1% on month in China, but decreased 0.9% in Japan, 1.1% in the Americas, 3.1% in Asia Pacific/All Other and 7.6% in Europe. Sales increased year-to-year in the Americas (24.5%), China (4.4%) and Asia Pacific/All Other (3.3%), but fell 0.1% in Japan and 7.1% in Europe.

“Global semiconductor sales in April slipped slightly compared to the previous month, which is in line with seasonal trends, but significantly outpaced sales from April 2019,” says SIA CEO John Neuffer, “the global semiconductor market through April has shown early signs of resilience to the economic turmoil caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, but significant uncertainty remains in the months ahead.”
