MediaTek has reported consolidated revenue climbed 11.1% sequentially to a 14-quarter high of NT$67.6 billion (US$2.3 billion) in the second quarter of 2020. The results beat its guidance range of NT$62.1 billion to NT$66.9 billion.
MediaTek saw its June revenue surge 16.1% on month to NT$25.28 billion. Revenue for the first half of 2020 totaled NT$128.47 billion, rising 12.4% on year.
A rise in 5G mobile SoC shipments led to MediaTek's revenue increases in June and the second quarter, market watchers believe. The company has rolled out its Dimensity 1000 flagship series and 800 series for mid-range models.
MediaTek is also likely to post higher-than-expected margins in the second quarter, according to the watchers. The company estimated second-quarter gross margin and operating margin at 41-44% and 8-11%, respectively.
Huawei, Oppo and Xiaomi are reportedly among MediaTek's major clients adopting its 5G SoC chips. The Taiwan-based chipmaker is expected to see revenue generated from its high-ASP 5G chip lineup boom in the second half of 2020 and next year, the watchers indicated.
