China avoids frozen food import from a certain countires

Wednesday, September 30, 2020

China says its customs division has “repeatedly” detected the virus in frozen foods.

Authorities in Beijing have announced a ban on certain foods imported from countries with a large number of virus cases.

China says its customs division has “repeatedly” detected the virus in frozen foods, “proving it risks contamination.”

Specifically, if the frozen products test positive for coronavirus three times or more, that producer’s imports are banned for four weeks.

The company will be automatically re-approved for imports after the suspension period.

In early summer, China suspended imports from certain US meat producers, including Tyson, after rampant worker outbreaks.

According to CNN, as of early September the company had banned imports from dozens of companies linked to worker infections.

The CDC says the risk of catching COVID-19 from food is low.
