Technology company Nokia has invented a detection device that’s designed to help contain the spread of COVID-19.
The automated system uses a thermal camera to detect whether a person has a higher-than-normal body temperature.
It can also decipher whether the person monitored is wearing a mask.
Nokia is currently using this device in its India factory, which has 1,000+ employees.
The company is also in advanced talks on agreements to deploy the systems in other countries across many sectors, including schools.
Nokia says it’s possible to add features that blur out the faces of the subjects to ensure privacy.
The ability to monitor the system from an operations center also means no congregating at checkpoints.
Nokia says the system could also be used for surveillance of machines for maintenance purposes, as well as monitoring a building for security threats.
