In late November, it was reported that Apple was on the hook for $113 million in fines due to a scheme being dubbed “batterygate.”

An investigation by 34 states and the District of Columbia revealed the company had deliberately slowed the performance of older phones when their batteries began to degrade.

The tech company barely had time to get out its checkbook before it was slapped with another multi-million-dollar penalty.

This time, the fine came from Italy, whose regulators say Apple owes 10 million euros for claims that its iPhones are more waterproof than they are.

According to Business Insider, the regulators said Apple misled consumers when claiming certain models of iPhone were water-resistant up to 13 feet for as long as 30 minutes.

The authority says this is only true in lab conditions where still, pure water is used, and doesn’t apply in real-world settings where consumers drop phones in the water.

They also claim Apple’s warranty terms are misleading because they include a clause that voids the warranty on phones damaged by liquids.

Newsweek reported that the claim brings the total of Europe’s 2020 fines against Apple to $1.36 billion.
