Sikorsky has been in the presidential transportation business for 63 years.
The company’s aircraft have flown every commander-in-chief since President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
The VH-92A will transport the president, vice president and other U.S. officials.
The Lockheed Martin company is under contract to make 23 VH-92A helicopters for the U.S. Marine Corps.
On Feb. 5, Sikorsky received the go ahead from the U.S. Navy to deliver the five final aircraft as part of VH-92A contract. Delivery is scheduled for 2023.
Sikorsky is completing final modifications on 12 of the production aircraft at its facilities in Stratford, Connecticut, and Owego, New York.
Sikorsky is on pace to deliver a next generation presidential helicopter later this year.
According to Eric Ropella, PMA-274 presidential helicopter program manager, the program remains on budget and on schedule.
