AP Memory Technology, a subsidiary of Powerchip Technology specializing in customized memory chip designs and IPs, has developed a new heterogeneous integrated technology named VHM (versatile heterogeneous memory) for DRAM memory for use in AI related applications. The new VHM technology has been licensed to multiple customers, and will start generating revenues in the second half of 2021, according to company chairman and president Wen Chen.
AP Memory's in-house developed VHM is a 3D die-stacked DRAM design, and will play a driver of the company's growth this year, said Chen.
AP Memory will remain focused on sales of its high-margin offerings for IoT and AI applications and is upbeat about its operations in 2021, Chen indicated. The company swung to net profits of NT$812 million (US$28.27 million) last year from losses in 2019, with EPS reaching NT$11.
AP Memory enjoyed a strong second half of 2020, when the company's efforts to enhance its offerings for IoT, AI and other markets that yield higher margins started bearing fruit, Chen noted.
Besides, AP Memory sold its stake in Zentel Japan last year, and has gradually phased out from the standard DRAM segment, Chen continued.
AP Memory is partnering mainly with TSMC and Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing (PSMC), according to company sources.
