Macronix International is gearing up for a surge in shipments of its ROM memory for Nintendo's new-generation Switch console later in the second half of 2021, according to industry sources.
Macronix already built up ROM chip inventory in advance, gearing up for shipments for the upcoming Switch console, the sources said. Nintendo is reportedly Macronix's largest customer.
Also a supplier of NOR flash and SLC NAND flash memory, Macronix enjoyed growing shipments of its flash products particularly NOR flash as well as rising chip ASPs in the second quarter, the sources indicated.
In addition, Macronix will be ramping up shipments of its 3D NAND flash chips in the second half of 2021, the sources said. The product segment will starting making a positive contribution to company revenue in 2022.
Macronix has reported revenue surged 18.7% sequentially to NT$11.43 billion (US$407 million) in the second quarter of 2021, with June revenue climbing 20% on year to NT$3.61 billion.
Macronix disclosed previously NT$13.24 billion worth of net inventory it had as of the end of March 2021 compared with NT$12.95 billion as of December 31, 2020. The increase of NT$293 million was built mainly for shipments of its ROM products in the second half of this year.
