Samsung Electronics Co. will provide 15.2 billion won ($13.3 million) in grant funding to 12 research and development projects in six emerging fields this year.
Those fields for Samsung’s research support are advanced artificial intelligence, next-generation encryption system, network communication beyond 5G and 6G, future display, and semiconductor device and process.
As part of its corporate social responsibility program, the Korean tech giant picks R&D projects and provides funding every year to support the advancement of technology that requires national-level research.
The company has run the program dubbed Samsung Future Technology Development Project since 2013 with a committed grant of 1.5 trillion won in total.
The company selects projects for its R&D grants twice a year from the fields of basic science, materials, and information/communication technology. In 2014, it expanded the grant program to include R&D projects on future technologies.
So far, the company has sponsored 103 future technology R&D projects with 105.9 billion won and 682 projects in basic science, materials, and ICT with 886.5 billion won.
