When industry talks about the massive opportunities from billions of connected IoT devices, the high-level view can overlook the fact that it’s such a diverse and fragmented market. This was evident at last week’s annual The Things Conference 2023 in Amsterdam, in which both talks from speakers and exhibits demonstrated the breadth of applications—from government and utilities, to logistics, buildings, agriculture, healthcare and much more.
What’s needed is a level of device and network maturity that allows users to not have to worry about which device type, which sensors, or which connectivity technology they must use to benefit from IoT. And even after that hurdle, there’s the question of how to utilize that data in a way that it integrates into the wider enterprise management software to make it meaningful to a business or organization.
In this video interview, we chatted with Wienke Giezeman, CEO and co-founder of The Things Industries—the company behind The Things Conference—to get his views on how one can tackle this diverse IoT market, the success of his company and The Things Conference, and about some of the announcements during the conference.
