Samsung Electronics Co. has initiated the recruitment of in-vehicle application processor (AP) chip developers in North America.
According to the company’s North American hiring website on Sunday, Samsung Electronics has posted a job opening for a senior automotive system-on-chip (SoC) designer.
SoC refers to a single-chip system semiconductor that integrates multiple systems onto one chip.
The role involves taking on a high-level leadership position with a mission to propose an innovative SoC architecture, requiring over 15 years of experience in automotive SoC design.
The expected annual salary for the position is up to $360,000. Samsung Electronics is also recruiting additional senior SoC designers for collaborative projects.
The latest recruitment drive is aimed at selecting a leader to steer the development of the V920 chip for the in-vehicle infotainment system (IVI) set to be featured in Hyundai Motor vehicles.
In June, Samsung Electronics announced that it would supply the premium processor, Exynos Auto V920, to Hyundai Motor vehicles.
The two companies plan to enter into a full-fledged collaboration with the goal of product supply by 2025. The Exynos Auto V920 supports real-time navigation information and high-quality multimedia playback for drivers.
The product features ten latest central processing units from ARM, a leading UK-based semiconductor design company, aiming to enhance performance by about 1.7 times compared to previous models.
Graphics processing is also expected to be up to 2 times faster. The production responsibility lies with Samsung Electronics’ foundry business.
Samsung Electronics’ strategic move into hiring for in-vehicle AP development aligns with its broader goal of expanding its market share in the automotive chip industry.
The company is intensifying efforts by establishing its sole global foundry hub in the U.S., aiming to enhance both local manufacturing capabilities and research and development strength.
