DRAM market sees Q1 shipment dip, but revenue growth from higher prices

Wednesday, June 19, 2024

Despite a fall in units, Q1 DRAM revenues of $18.35 billion were up 5.1% QoQ thanks to contract ASP increases, says TrendForce.

The Big Three saw seasonal shipment declines in Q1 but continued to benefit from Q4 contract price increases.

Mobile DRAM saw the highest price increase thanks to strong sales of Chinese smartphones.

Consumer DRAM had the lowest price rises as manufacturers still need to clear their inventories.

For Q1, TrendForce estimates that final DRAM contract prices will rise by 13–18%.

Samsung’s revenue rose 1.3% to $8.05 billion after increasing ASPs by 20% but its market share dipped by 1.6 percentage points to 43.9%.

Hynix saw a 2.6% revenue increase to $5.7 billion after a 20% ASP rise but its market share fell 0.7% points to 31.1%.

Micron’s revenue rose 17.8% to $3.95 billion with its market share rising by 2.3% points to 21.5%. Micron increase ASP by 23%, while unit shipments only dropped by 4–5%.

For unit shipments in Q2, Samsung expects low to high single digit growth, Hynix expects mid-single- digit growth and Micron expects a slight decline.
