Google has rolled out a new feature for Pixel phones that lets users bypass charging when the battery limit is set to 80%. This update was included in a recent Pixel Feature Drop.
When users enable the "Limit to 80%" option in the Charging optimization menu, the phone will charge normally until reaching 80%. At this point, it displays a "Done charging" message and stops supplying power to the battery, instead drawing power directly from the charger to run the device, as reported by Android Authority.
It can help users get prolonged battery health by reducing voltage stress and trickle charging. Google has confirmed that this behavior is intentional.
This functionality brings Pixel phones in line with other Android manufacturers, such as Samsung, Sony, and ASUS, which have similar battery-bypass features.
As a Pixel user, I am glad to see that Google has been progressively adding features that other Androids already have. I mean, it's fun to use stock Android, but being behind the others in functionality isn't a great feeling.
