Samsung is having to re-design its HBM chips it was revealed at CES
“They have to engineer a new design,” said Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, in Las Vegas yesterday, “but they can do it. They are working very fast. They’re very committed to do it. They’re going to succeed — no question, I have confidence that Samsung will succeed with HBM.”
Hynix took the lead in HBM and has been making windfall profits as the market leader with about 50% of the HBM revenues.
The HBM market was expected to be worth about $14 billion last year, according to Yole Developpement, and to have a CAGR from 2013 to 2029 of ~38%, reaching about $37.7 billion in 2029.
This year HBM is expected to be worth 30% of total DRAM revenues.
