China's Loongson Has Managed To Develop Industry's First In-House Server, Featuring a Native Interconnect Technology as Well
China's achievements in the computational world cannot be ignored further. With the US export restrictions, the nation has apparently doubled down on industry developments. Now, in a new report by MyDrivers, it is revealed that the Chinese manufacturer Loongson has developed a "100% in-house" server, which features up to 64 physical cores, by mounting two of their 3C6000 processors, interconnected through a self-built "Loongson Coherent Link technology," which shows that a full-scale server solution is now available to the domestic markets.
Loongson's 3C6000 server CPUs feature a 16-core and 32-thread count and significant generational improvements from the firm's previous 3C5000. Interestingly, the firm has worked tremendously on scaling up the CPU's interconnectivity, and now, it can support up to eight-way connections, which means that one server rack can house up to 128 cores and 256 threads. The interconnect onboard is called the "Dragon Chain," which is a primary factor in the performance the firm has managed to extract from its first domestic server.
According to the company's internal testing, Loongson's 3C6000 CPU is comparable to Intel's Xeon 4314. The Team Blue processor being compared here is from the "Ice Lake" generation and features a similar core/thread count relative to the 3C6000. While the performance certainly isn't on par with some of the mainstream options available in the markets, this isn't the ultimate target for Loongson at all. They need a sustainable roadmap and market opportunities; by the looks of it, they have managed to achieve them.

Given China's initiative to switch towards domestic hardware, Loongson has achieved widespread adoption by the government sector. The firm still has a long way to go, but given the pace of achievements they have been making, it is inevitable that the manufacturer will have a massive influence over the domestic markets moving into the future.
