In a move set to accelerate India’s emergence as a global electronics and semiconductor hub, Tata Group and Intel Corp. have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore wide-ranging collaboration across consumer and enterprise hardware, semiconductor manufacturing, advanced packaging, and AI-driven computing solutions.
The agreement marks one of the most significant industry partnerships to date supporting India’s goal of building a geo-resilient electronics and semiconductor supply chain. With global manufacturers increasingly seeking diversified, regionally distributed production ecosystems, the Tata-Intel alliance positions India as a competitive alternative destination for chipmaking and systems manufacturing.
Under the MoU, the companies will explore the manufacturing and packaging of Intel products for the domestic market at Tata Electronics’ upcoming semiconductor fab and outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facilities, as well as cooperate on advanced packaging technologies.
Another major pillar of the collaboration focuses on the rapid rollout of AI PCs tailored for India’s consumer and enterprise sectors. Industry forecasts place India among the world’s top five PC markets by 2030, driven by digital transformation, expanding enterprise demand, and the integration of AI across work and personal computing. The initiative would combine Intel’s AI compute reference designs with Tata Electronics’ electronics manufacturing capabilities and the Tata Group’s extensive distribution reach across India.
N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, said the alliance underscores the company’s commitment to developing a robust semiconductor industry in India. “Together, we will drive an expanded technology ecosystem and deliver leading semiconductors and systems solutions, positioning us well to capture the large and growing AI opportunity,” he noted.
Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan emphasized India’s importance as one of the fastest-growing compute markets globally. “We see this as a tremendous opportunity to collaborate with Tata to rapidly scale in a market fuelled by rising PC demand and rapid AI adoption,” he said.
The MoU aligns seamlessly with the company’s roadmap across EMS, OSAT, and semiconductor fabrication, according to Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Electronics. The collaboration, he said, would enhance cost efficiency, time-to-market, and operational agility—key ingredients for enabling Intel products to meet surging demand for next-generation AI compute in India.
