Buying any first-generation technology comes with a risk of tech issues, and that's no different for early adopters of the new Galaxy Z TriFold. Two users on social media are reporting problems with Samsung's new smartphone, though the issues don’t appear to be widespread.
Two Reddit posts show similar issues of unresponsive inner displays, with both sharing video evidence in the last few days. Both sources say they’ve handled their devices with care and are unsure how the problems arose.
One Reddit poster found that the phone's inner screen was unresponsive and wouldn’t display any open apps. The issue began during what they called “normal usage,” followed by a sudden flash of green on the screen.
This person has experienced the issue twice and found that resetting the device eventually fixed the problem for a short time. They’ve now been offered a free repair from Samsung, but the brand says it'll take up to three weeks to be fixed.
Another user, who posted after the first report, said their device’s inner display also became unresponsive, but it's different: an all-white screen that wasn't fixed after a reset. This person has returned the unit to Samsung for a refund rather than pursuing a repair, saying they plan to return to the form factor for future generations once early issues have been resolved.
It appears Samsung is acting swiftly to fix these issues with existing units, but it may not be able to outright replace phones due to low stock levels.
However, Samsung has confirmed it will soon have new Galaxy Z TriFold units on sale in the US. According to GSMArena, Email notifications sent this week confirmed that the phone will be restocked on its website on Feb. 20 at 10 a.m. EST.
The Galaxy Z TriFold sold out quickly when it first went on sale, so you’ll need to act quickly to pick one up. The phone costs $2,899.
