SK Hynix to double output in five years

SK Hynix is to double its production capacity over the next five years, says chairman Chey Tae-won.

The company has budgeted $67bn between 2024 and 2028 to fund expansion.

SK Hynix has filed with the US SEC for a US listing later this year, which could raise $14bn.

Chey also said the memory shortage will last until 2030.

SK Hynix has seen its share price rise 250% this year, propelling it into the trillion dollar market cap club on the back of soaring demand for HBM chips.

SK Hynix to double output in five years

SK Hynix’s profit for the January-March quarter quintupled y-o-y to $26.7bn with an operating margin of 72%, and HBM accounted for the bulk of its earnings.

Hynix had a 57% share of the HBM market in Q4, according to Counterpoint Research, while Samsung had 22%.

Hynix has secured 70% of Nvidia’s HBM requirement for its latest Vera Rubin processor platform – a deal that is projected to give SK Hynix a 54% share of the worldwide HBM4 market.
