Sony new desktop PC uses Nvidia chipset

Wednesday, October 30, 2002 Sony has turned to Nvidia for chipset to boost the graphics performance in its new desktop PC line based on the Athlon XP chip. The new Vaio PCV-RXA842 comes with Athlon XP 2400+ processor and Nvidia's nForce chipset.

The latest nForce chip incorporates a graphics core that eliminates the need for a separate board, while granting the machine decent graphics performance, according to analysts.

Sony used a chipset from Silicon Integrated Systems on its previous AMD-based desktops.
