The Chinese government is about to announce its support on the domestically developed 3G standard TD-SCDMA (time division synchronous code division multiple access), according to the TD-SCDMA Forum.
Promoting the TD-SCDMA standard, the group which formed by companies like China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom, Datang Group, Huawei, Motorola, Nortel and Siemens, said that the Chinese Ministry of Information Industry (MII) and the country's largest mobile operators may soon adopt the standard.
The adoption is a good news for TD-SCDMA developers, Datang Telecom Technology based in China and its prtner, Siemens. But it may mean bad news for proponents of CDMA2000 and W-CDMA, including China Unicom, which now has 2.3 million CDMA subscribers.
According to the forum, the Chinese government has been evaluating all three technologies over the past twelve months and is expected to announce a decision on its favored 3G standard shortly.
