Sales increased at TSMC

Thursday, November 7, 2002
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. today announced that net sales for October skyrocketed more than 47 percent year-over-year and more than 19 percent from September's results to $441 million (15.2 million Taiwanese dollars).

TSMC Spokesperson Harvey Chang attributed the jump to a wafer shipments surge in October as customer demand increased for the holiday season. Furthermore, Chang said that he anticipates Q4 shipments will be slightly higher than expected.

Meanwhile, the top foundry's revenues from January through October represented a 31 percent increase over the 2001 period, coming in at $3.9 billion (135 million TWD).

TSMC's main rival, United Microelectronics Corp., has not released its results yet, but is expected to do so by Nov. 10.
