Not to fall behind in biotechnology industry as both IBM and HP has established R&D centers in Taiwan, Dell plans to build a R&D center in Taiwan and will submit its application to Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) by tomorrow.
During a meeting held yesterday sponsored by the Taipei Computer Association (TCA), Premier Yu Shyi Kun said "The cost for running an R&D center in Taiwan is only one-third that in the U.S." Taiwan has been actively wooing big international companies to set up R&D centers on the island, an essential part of the island's "2008 National Development Plan.
Several international renowned companies have already expressed their interest in setting up R&D centers in Taiwan. According to the IDB under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), Sony Corporation also filed an application to establish an R&D center in Taiwan.
The MOEA accepted the application last month. Moreover, several big local companies have also set up their headquarters and R&D centers on the island, including Hon Hai Precision, Acer and Quanta Computer.
