3Com announced it has scored a victory over Intel and its Xircom unit over a patent dispute concerning local-area networking and modem cards.
3Com legal suit, originally filed in 2000, claimed that Intel's Xircom unit infringed upon 3Com's LAN and modem patents. As part of a patent infringement lawsuit, 3Com intention is to prevent Xircom from making, using, and selling its products in the US.
Under the terms of this settlement, 3Com will be paid $15 million by Xircom, as part of a consent judgment that acknowledges the validity of the 3Com patents in the dispute.
In addition, a cross licensing of the patents in suit has been agreed upon and the Xircom lawsuits against 3Com will be dismissed with prejudice.
