Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (TSMC) raised its fourth quarter forecast last week following higher than expected demand for PCs and communication products. The company said that wafer shipments and its utilization rate will be higher than earlier predictions.
TSMC expects wafer shipments during the fourth quarter to be roughly equal to its third-quarter shipments, around 677,000 units, rather than a drop of more than 10 percent as previously forecast. TSMC's utilization rate is now expected to be close to 60 percent as compared to the previously forecast of 50% as a result of weak demand for chips.
