Japan's largest mobile phone service provider, NTT Docomo, said subscribers using its camera phones for the i-shot service have reached three million, representing about 7% of its total 42 million subscribers.
The i-shot service was introduced last June, allowing subscribers to transmit still images taken with a compatible mobile phone with a built-in digital camera. Due to its popularity and high demand, the company has since introduced seven i-shot-compatible handsets.
Of telecom service providers worldwide, J-Phone, ranked third in Japan, has the largest number of subscribers with camera phones. The company said last month its camera-phone users exceeded seven million, or more than half of its subscriber base.
