DRAM manufacturers will aggressively expand facilities investments in 2003 despite experiencing losses in 2002.
DRAM makers are expected to expand facilities investments by an average 25% in 2003. Samsung Electronics Co, Ltd is set to invest US$2.5 billion, while Infineon Technologies AG and Micron Technology Inc plan to make facilities investments of US$1 billion each.
The investment expansion is deemed as a strategic move to expand production capacity in preparation for the latter half of next year, during which industry watchers estimate that DRAM sales will take off.
