Advanced Micro Devices said it will raised its revenue guidance for the fourth quarter, citing better-than-expected demand for its microchips used in personal computers and its flash memory products.
AMD said it now expects sales of about $700 million for the fourth quarter, up 35 percent from the third quarter. That is significantly higher than AMD's previous forecast for a 20 percent increase.
Intel is scheduled to provide its mid-quarter update after the stock market close. Analysts, citing better-than-expected sales of PCs leading into the holiday buying season and strong demand for cell phones, are expecting good news from Intel.
