Taiwanese notebook makers are planning to shift close to 60 percent of the export orders to their production line based in China.
The Institute for Information Industry (III) said that the China-based facilities took up less than 20 percent of all the production of Taiwan notebook computer companies during the first half of this year. This percentage will soon expand to 40 percent at the end of this year, and will challenge 60 percent next year.
The Market Information Center (MIC) under the III projected the production of Taiwan's notebook computer companies to reach 23 million units in 2003, increase by 26.7 percent. The production value may grow at a narrower margin due to the decline in PC prices, estimated to up 7.8 percent to reach US$15 billion. The profit margin getting lesser making these Taiwanese companies quickly shift the notebook production at their China-based facilities rather than produce here in Taiwan that usually the overhead cost more.
The MIC predicted that the China's facilities able to produce 60 percent notebook computer 13.8 million notebook orders. China will replace Taiwan next year as the world's largest notebook computer makers.
