Micron Technology Inc. has engineering samples of its 128-Mbit flash memory, which it calls a 'Q-Flash' device, intended as a pin-compatible alternative to Intel's StrataFlash device of the same density.
The 128-Mbit Q-Flash joins the already available 32-Mbit and 64-Mbit capacity devices, although volume manufacturing of the part is not expected until the third quarter of 2003.
"As a drop-in replacement, this non-volatile memory device provides networking and communications customers with an efficient, alternative source, requiring no additional software or hardware changes to an application's design," said Jerry Johnson, Micron's strategic product marketing director for networking and communications, in a statement.
Micron's 128-Mbit flash memory is made using a 0.15-micron process technology. It provides electrical-block erase, programmable and read only memory features.
