China's Minister of Science and Technology is scheduled to sign an agreement with the United States on Wednesday (Dec. 11) that would increase technology cooperation between the rivals.
Minister Xu Guanhua will sign the Protocol on Cooperation in Civilian Industrial Technology and Scientific and Technical Information Policy during a signing ceremony at the Commerce Department. Commerce Secretary Donald Evans will sign the agreement for the Bush Administration.
The agreement symbolizes growing research and commercial ties between Chinese government agencies and U.S. companies and universities. Chinese officials have forged research deals with several universities on technology research, including the University of Maryland.
Xu's visit to the United States is the latest in a series by Chinese officials seeking ties with U.S. technology partners.
