Hynix Semiconductor Inc. has started sampling a 500MHz clock frequency 1Gbit/sec data rate DDR graphics memory chip. The Korean chipmaker claimed the device has the fastest speed in the industry in the DDR-I format.
The DDR chip is in 4Mx32 128Mbit configuration, and uses a 144-ball FBGA package.
Farhad Tabrizi, Hynix vice president of worldwide marketing, said the high speed DDR-I graphics chip will provide high performance at a 10% cost advantage over DDR-II graphics units.
Hynix will introduce its own 500MHz DDR-II in the first quarter of 2003, Tabrizi said.
