Looking for your year end bonus ?

Wednesday, December 11, 2002
A leading job recruiting website conducted a survey showed that local companies in Taiwan will pay an average year-end bonus equivalent to 1.3 months of salary to their employees this year compared to 1.4 last year. On average, Taiwan companies from all industries will give out an average of 1.3-months extra pay as year-end bonuses before Chinese New Year on February 1, the poll found.

The average was 1.4 months last year. According to the president 104.com.tw, also called the 104 Job Bank Rocky Young, there were 1,252 companies and 4,840 individuals took part of the latest survey shows that financial institutions like banks and insurance firms will pay out the most generous bonus up to 1.9 months of salaries as a reward to their employees' hard work and contributions during the past 12 months.

Although 36.3 percent of Taiwan's salaried employees do not expect to receive any extra pay from their companies for year-end bonuses this year, and around 11 percent of companies polled indicated that they will not give any year-end bonuses this year, compared with 10.5 percent last year.

About 54 percent of the 1,252 companies indicated they plan to hire new employees next year while 38.3 percent will base hiring on overall economic conditions. Seven out of 10 will agree with their company's policy to cut salaries and maintain their job. Although 18.4 percent of companies have fired employees this year, only 6.6 plan to reduce their workforces next year, the survey indicated. The majority of companies covered by the survey said that they decreased their workforces in reaction to the economic downturn.
