Insight Memec creates RLDRAM Demo kit

Thursday, December 26, 2002 Insight Memec, a semiconductor distributor introduced a solution for developing designs that utilize high-speed reduced latency dynamic random access memory (RLDRAM) in FPGA-based applications.

Available from Insight in the US, the Memec Design RLDRAM demonstration platform includes a Xilinx Virtex-II FPGA; four Infineon Technologies' HYB18RL25632 32-bit wide RLDRAMs; the Memec Design RLDRAM controller; a physical interface that operates at 200MHz DDR (400 Mbits/s/pin); and a standard P160 interface. The platform also includes an example reference design that is pre-programmed into the module, a feature that allows instant set-up and testing.

The RLDRAM controller utilizes the RLDRAM's internal architecture, which expedites random access at rates significantly faster than traditional SDRAM. In the past, designers devoted time and resources on creating their own IP solutions; the hardware- and software-proven Memec Design RLDRAM controller, however, enables designers to focus on evaluating applications for the end-market.

Dianne Hilly, director of Sales for Specialty Memories at Infineon Technologies North America Corp, said, "Memec Design and Insight achieved all of the benchmarks we established with them and have designed an excellent platform for system manufacturers to evaluate RLDRAM."

Elements of the Memec Design RLDRAM development platform can be purchased as a complete kit for US$795, with a fixed controller netlist for US$3,200, a customized netlist for US$4,675, or with a project license for the full source code for US$9,995.
