The chip foundry market is expected to grow by 30% in sales this year, from $10.7 billion in 2002, to $14.3 billion in 2003, according to a forecast from IC Insights.
Furthermore, the foundry industry sales is expected to jump 50% to $21.4 billion by 2004, the firm predicted.
The sales from pure-play foundry manufacturers, which includes TSMC, UMC, and Chartered are expected to grow from $8.2 billion in 2002, to $10.7 billion in 2003, to $16 billion in 2004, the firm said.
Foundry sales among integrated device manufacturers (IDMs) are expected to grow from $2.5 billion in 2002, to $3.6 billion in 2003, to $5.4 billion in 2004. IDMs in the foundry business include Hynix, IBM, and Toshiba.
