DDR spot prices sink further

Thursday, January 9, 2003 Spot prices for 256Mbit DDR SDRAM plunged below US$6 for the first time in five months, reaching US$5.80 on January 7, reported the Nihon Keizai Shimbun.

256Mbit DDR spot prices had fallen to US$6.20 last December. The decline was due to sluggish PC demand and oversupply of DDR in the market. DRAM makers may dump supply into the spot market to relieve inventory pressure, said industry observers.

SDRAM spot prices, however, have been climbing steadily. According to Nihon Keizai Shimbun, spot prices of 128Mbit products have grown over 30% in the past month to reach US$2.40-2.50 while prices of 256Mbit products have come to US$3.60-3.70.
