Intel Corp. unveils a new chip, called dubbed Centrino, that will be less speedy than current processors, but provide longer battery life and built-in with wireless networking capabilities.
Intel said the Centrino components are based on a new microprocessor architecture aims at enbling the making of thinner, lighter machines that use less power and thus don't require frequent battery charges.
The first Centrino components will use the 802.11b wireless, or WiFi standard. Intel will release a version with faster 802.11a standard by the end of second quarter, Intel CEO said at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week.
The Centrino processor and chip set would be released in the first half of the year.
