Samsung Electronics has become the world's second-biggest semiconductor maker.
According to IC Insights Inc of the United States, a microchip market research group, Samsung Electronics recorded sales of US$8.73 billion, beating Texas Instruments Inc and ST Microelectronics, while following only Intel in terms of sales in 2002.
Meanwhile, Germany's Infineon Technologies AG climbed to seventh place from the previous year's ninth spot, whereas competitors Micron Technology and Hynix Semiconductor did not make the top ten list, IC Insights said.
