A federal appeals court tossed out a lower court verdict that found Rambus Inc. had committed fraud, and dismissed a ruling that Infineon Technologies hadn't infringed on Rambus's patents.
The same court also reversed the previous fraud verdict that awarded $2,382,782.87 to Infineon on its fraud counterclaim.
News of verdict sent Rambus stocks up soaring.
The court's decision could have serious afframifications in the semiconductor industry. The final outcome will likely to determine the validity of Rambus' patents.
Should Rambus wins the case, it stands to seek royalty payments from many DRAM manufacturers for using its technologies that could amount to $1 billion, according the industry.
